Recap of recent unfortunate events:

About a month and a half ago: The trusty imac died.

Saturday: The van traveled about three blocks and then only had reverse gear available. Will see what it does tomorrow and what the tranny mechanic says, but I suspect I hear a warble of an obese feminine nature...

This morning: The bike fell over against a wall and snapped the front reflector off.

Hey, at least I found the superglue.

The shit hit the trans today.

Between the stress from that, the stress from other things, lack of sleep, and the thumping goth-metal concert next door in the Edina, I was feeling unwell at the meeting today. Sorry.

Lunch from the BK across the parking lot didn't help matters. Their mushroom steakhouse sammich is ruined by the horrible steaksauce they slather it in.

Just woke up dreaming that tomatoes were the complex conjugate of my alarm clock alarm.

The iMac is dead.

Made in 1999, and gifted to me in 2003 by theatre_nerd and glittergodzilla, it survived my hardhack overclocking (done by moving around surface mount resistors on the processor daughtercard) and addition of CCFL caselighting (quite pleased with the result of that one), though as a result of being dissassembled so often, one of the internal cables became slightly dodgy.

In recent years, it served as a quite stable terminal for internets and IRC trolling, and bittorrenting MST3k episodes. Earlier this year, it went for eight months between power-failure induced reboots, and had been up for over three months before dying.

The cause of death is arcing in a high-voltage section of the CRT drive circuitry, causing the power supply to shut down almost as soon as it starts. The cpu is fine, and a fix is probably possible, but until then, it sits on the floor, looking forlorn and naked outside of its plastic casings.

Long live the iMac, may it live again.

Target has pool toys for 75% off. I picked up an electric inflator pump and a couple of "Cyclone Spin" (kid-sized hamster wheels) to add to the convention pool toy bin that I bring to Convergence. Beach balls are 48 cents, but I *think* I still have enough of those to last a few more years...

This, of course, sparked a Convergence Decor related tangent thought train: What else could Convergence Decor do with inflatable objects? Perhaps a ludicristly-giant blower-inflated Connie 2.0 to scowl over the north tower atrium or east entrance turn-around? Hmmm...

It would fit with the con theme.

Also, I saw some turtles.

This afternoon, while riding back home on my bike, I pondered for about ten seconds that I'd never once needed my cell phone for an emergency while riding.

About 2 miles later, I was flagged down by a very scared 12yo girl. Some guy in a white car had given her the serious creeps while she and her little brother carried a 12pack of Diet Cherry Coke home from Kmart.

Another crisis averted through technology.

Found a CD-RW tonight from circa 2002 containing dumps of my two personal shell accounts plus the LFSF account, which had photos of Demicon 13, Game What Game?, and the Bruce Campbell booksigning. After some swearing and dust-blowing, it finally got backed up to the external drive.
